Thursday Gentle Yoga with Ping
Registration to this class opens two weeks before the class.
Take a mindful pause toward the end of the week. This gentle class focuses on slow, soothing movement, deep stretches, and moments of stillness to help release tension and recharge. Some weeks, we will also explore Yoga Nidra, a guided practice often called “yogic sleep,” where you lie comfortably and gently rest the body while the mind remains aware. It is deeply restorative, helping to release stress, calm the nervous system, and leave you feeling renewed. Each session invites you to relax, reconnect with yourself, and leave feeling peaceful, centered, and at ease.
Plan to be on your mat and ready to start on time.
Note: Once you register, a confirmation email will be sent to you with Ping's contact information. If you don't receive confirmation, please check that you have hit "confirm" at the end of the registration process.

The Association Pour La Sauvegarde du Leman needs help on Friday 17th October from 8:30am to 12 noon at Port Choiseul, Versoix. They are once again looking for volunteers to clear the shores of our beautiful lake of Asian Knotweed. This plant is an invasive foreign species which can grow up to 8cm a day and chokes out our indigenous plants. It is a wonderful opportunity to do something really worthwhile outside in the fresh air.
Initially this activity will be open only to members but as it is taking place during the school holidays it will be opened up to children, friends and family if places remain available after October 1st.
Please bear in mind that you will be working along the lake shore/ immediately next to the lake and so good balance is important. Solid shoes and clothing suitable for gardening incl a hat are recommended. If you have them, water shoes may be useful.
We will meet at Gare Cornavin and take the train together to Versoix. Port Choiseul is approximately a 10 minutes walk from the station. I will finalise and distribute the train times and arrangements for meeting the group in Versoix once I have received the final information pack from Robin at the ASL.
If you have any questions please contact Belinda at aiwcvolservices@gmail.com or Tel 076 509 65 78.

Members at Large “Thursdays Together” Workshop
1st Thursday afternoon of the month - calendar permitting.
(This month on a Tuesday - exception to the Thursdays Together - due to scheduling conflicts).
Intermediate Generative AI Workshop with Session Leaders: Sharon Markert and Carol Waites
If you already regularly use AI, come along to get ideas on how to use it more extensively for your projects. First we will hear of different people’s experiences using it.
We will test it out together and see what different answers we get and share our findings.
We will also discuss how it is being used in the workplace today and how it is changing the world as we know it. Bring your laptop, phone or iPad so you can learn first-hand to put AI to use.
Sharon Markert
Sharon started her career in IT back in the days of mainframe computers (1987), but given the rapid rate of technological change since then, she has been dismayed at times to realize that her young nieces and nephews know far more about today’s technologies than she does! After an initial period of resistance, she is determined not to entirely miss the boat on AI, so has recently started to use AI for tasks such as creating English lessons for the AIWC EWS activity and to polish her writing for the AIWC writers’ group. She also attended the recent AI for Good Summitsponsored by the ITU and came away feeling energized and hopeful about certain aspects of AI. She is keen to help others in the club try to get comfortable with the benefits and fun of AI.
Carol Waites
Since her active retirement in 2021, Carol has written her memoir of her career at the UN. She found AI useful in this task. She has also taught WHO staff members globally how to use AI in their writing. She has given a few sessions on using AI in our writing in AIWC writing workshops.

This month: best ideas and apps for Holiday Pics
Come and help with the bi-annual collection of food and hygiene products for people in need living in the Canton of Geneva. The items donated during Partage are sent to a central warehouse where they are sorted for distribution to more than 50 charities. At the last Partage, more than 150 tonnes of food and hygiene products were collected and Partage needs about 1100 volunteers to make this possible.
Limited French is not a problem and instruction will be provided. You just need to be able to greet people with a smile, hand out the bags the customers need to fill, show them the list of needed items and collect bags again once they have been filled.
We have three time slots and need at least 2 volunteers for each one. Please feel free to register for one or several slots. Thank you for your help!

This month's theme: Sweet & Strong: Exploring the World of Sweet and Fortified Wines
In this seminar, we will look at the fascinating world of sweet and fortified wines, from the honeyed elegance of late-harvest bottlings to the rich complexity of fortified classics. We will explore diverse winemaking methods that create sweetness—botrytis, drying grapes, stopping fermentation, and fortification—and taste benchmark wines from around the world.
AIWC club member Beth Ann Dahan, long-time wine educator and vineyard owner will lead us through a tasting of a variety of wines. All wine lovers welcome – no experience or prerequisite required!
The cost of this course will be CHF 15-20 to cover the cost of the wines. Please bring this to the class and pay directly to Beth Ann.
The Wine Tasting Seminars will take place at different times over the course of the year. Each class is a stand-alone class.
Future seminars might include, but not limited to: New World vs Old World wines, Fortified Wines, Regional Wine Seminars, and Food Wine Pairing.
