This week we are having a movie and mahjong party at someone's home. Please contact Christine B-B.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interested in Mahjong but don't know how to play? Take a look at the reference list below and please contact Christine BB. directly for a "private" lesson so you are ready to join our beginner's group.
Ideally we need four people but there is a possibility to play with three. Please RSVP by Monday at 18:00. I will cancel the activity if we don't get a minimum of three.
The game of mahjong is a bit complicated in the beginning so plan to play at least three times to start understanding the basics and improve from there.
Good written introduction to the game : https://www.coololdgames.com/tile-games/mahjong/hong-kong/

Christine downloaded the game mahjong4friends.com. You can play against bots. The scoring is confusing so ignore it.

If you wish to learn easy yet empowering exercises that have been practiced by the Chinese for over 4,000 years as medicine and a secret to health and longevity, join Parinaz for a Taichi-qigong class!
“Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that works on our vital energy (qi). It's a way of guiding our own healing and bringing our body back into harmony with nature.”
These ancient exercises promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve overall health and flexibility by harmonizing the body and mind.
Parinaz tailors the class to all levels, incorporating standing warm-up exercises, self-massage techniques for the face, palms, and feet, basic Tai Chi forms featuring slow, rhythmic movements coordinated with breathing, and lying-down Daoyin exercises, which are essential for having healthy back muscles and strengthening your spine.
This class can help you manage pain, improve circulation and energy levels, and leave you feeling relaxed, energized, and ready to take on the day!

WE'VE MADE FIVE TEAMS BEFORE REGISTRATION IS CLOSED! YOU CAN SIGN UP ON THE WAITING LIST JUST IN CASE WE NEED A REPLACEMENT.
It's that time of the year, again, to register for the Steps for Cancer Support Challenge. Each year the AIWC creates several teams of 10 people to participate in a 20-day steps challenge. Our entry fee helps raise money for Cancer Support Switzerland (formally the English Speaking Cancer Association - ESCA CS).
How does this work?
5,000 steps = about 3 Km, 45 minutes
10,000 steps = about 6 Km, 1hr30
15,000 steps = about 10 Km, >2hrs
3. Before the Challenge begins, you will download the Pacer app onto your phone. It will record, or sync from a smart watch, each participant's steps on a daily basis. As the day progresses (wherever you are in the world) the team's steps total up to let you know where you place relative to the other teams, thus creating a gentle competition.
The Steps for Cancer Support Challenge 2023 runs for 20 days between May 2 and May 21.
Our entry fees of CHF 250 per team, along with any other donations we can raise go to Cancer Support Switzerland's efforts that have been helping families in Geneva for over twenty years.
Questions can be direct to Christine BB at aiwcactivities@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can visit the Steps Challenge webpage here.
When you register for the challenge, you will need to provide a unique email for you and your guests. These emails will be given to Cancer Support Switzerland. A few days before the event begins, a link will be sent directly to each participant. You will be required to download the Pacer application in order to participate since this is how your steps will be counted. You'll be able to follow your team's progress (no personal names will be published) and get your friends to donate to the challenge on the Leaderboard page. The great thing about this app is that it is not tracking your GPS location so you can record your steps without roaming. However, you should sync at the end of the day on wifi.
